Quiet and Electric Flyer International
Septembre 2007 par Chris Williams

7 and 8 of July 2007 at Schweisel

etroplane is a meeting of slope soaring which is unique to France. It is reserved to old style gliders up until around 1960 in other words, prior to the arrival of fiber glass gliders. This meeting unites those passionate about building and flying original models.

The advantage of this meeting on a slope is that it allows flying to take place at eye level thus giving pleasure and allowing one the chance to admire the workmanship through the fabric and to hear the whistling of the wind through the shroud

Every year, Retroplane take place in a new region, and the 2007 meeting will be hosted by the CMVH, Club de Modelisme des Hautes Vosges, and will be co-organizer with the Retroplane's team.

What models can take part ?
- Scale models which have been constructed in wood and fabric or tube and fabric according to plans which themselves reproduce gliders in wood or tubes and fabric.

- Scale models with fiber glass fuselage of personal conception, even if the full size model fuselage is in wood.

- Those scale models which have not been constructed by the competitor may take part of the competition but will not be judged or categorized.

What models cannot take part ?
- RTF gliders or those from kits with fiber glass fuselage and foam wings. For example, the Ka6 Multiplex or S2G, Mimimoa Graupner or S2G....

- An exeption can be made if the glider has been greatly improved by painting, registrations, interior cockpit reconstruction, scale airbrakes... If this is the case, please contact me.

- Full scale glider reproduction which have all plastic fuselage and wings are no longer considered "retro".

A special permit will allow 35Mhz and 40Mhz radio systems to be used during the event.

Aeromodel pilots who have a "retro" scale model or semi "retro" scale model and who wish to participate in the Retroplane 2006 meeting are invited to Contact me by E-Mail

Itinerary and philosophy of the meeting

Retroplane is a meeting for pleasure, without any competitive spirit while at the same time, providing "relaxed" judgment in order to motivate the participants.

The philosophy of the meeting is to

·         Prioritise authentic models

·         Meet friends who are adept at construction and in retro scale gliders

·         Create a memorable experience

·         Experience together an enjoyable and convivial moment

The flying Site Schweisel - Haut-Rhin 68

The Schweisel flying site is in "La route des cretes" on the Vosges, South East of Gérardmer town. The slope is soft and grassy, and allow all types of scale sailplanes to fly safely.

Where to sleep ?

I propose you to sleep at the "LE SCHOSSBERG" camp site, at around 1km from the small village of Kruth. Those who want to sleep elsewhere can of course do so, but that will ease the meetings on the slope and the week-end organization if everybody goes to the same charming village, as Jean Claude Haller, who will be our guide, live in this village. We will have a covered space reserved for us in the camp site. For those who want more confort, it will be possible to rent chalet and caravan for the meeting. Please check with the camp site for booking.
