To start with, it was an relief and at the same time very rewarding to see th FG flying, she is so translucent, a bit archaic, we enjoyed it very, very much!!
After these first flights it was obvious that the cg was too for forward. Somewhere the fact was in my mind that the main girder was on 30% and I put the cg there. Later I discovered that the girder was on 25%, so I had to take out some lead. I figured out that about 220 grams less was sufficient.
No easy acces, the camera is much smaller than my head!

Some wrenching because the lead was glued with epoxy
and with tweezers put the nuts back
Th cg was now at 30%, hopefully that is right, at least I know how to get out more!
There was another thing that worried me, the wiring or rigging of the wing warping. I made a sketch to clarify things
as you can see there are two ( I came up with the names, maybe ther are better names for those wires) "control wires" ataching the servo arm with the upper wings, and one "connecting wire" between the lower wings via a pulley inthe center just under the upper wing. If there is a failure of one of the control wires, the plane is uncontrolable, its only possible to roll to one side and not back. That was a worrying thought! When testing stationary sometimes the quicklink on the servo arm snapped out and after the handlaunches there also unsnapped other quicklinks. I didn't trust the quicklinks 100%. There are other quicklinks with locking plates
(top on the picture) put the locking plates are so tiny, they will get lost, I am afraid. I made a spring of 0.6 steel wire, around a 4mm drill and snipped off pieces of a couple of windings, which you can slide over the quicklink (bottom) It looks reassuring, hopefully they do there job.
I could not use this on the servo arm, because of the full throw I need there. I modified the quicklinks into more permanent linking
The bushes are long enough to give free rotation when the M 2 nuts are fastened. The metal strips are ment to give a better load distribution on the plastic of the servo arm.
I use these locking rings on some important quicklinks of the other rigging, so I get a bit more trust in all those wires!
One advantage of the wiring and floppy wings is the following thing; by adjusting (shorter) the "connecting wire"it is possible to introduce a smaller angle of incidence at the tip, to get better stall charasterics.

Ich hab auch lange nicht reingeschaut, staune um so mehr!! Toll! Super Erstflug-Video!!!!
Holland ist natürlich ein sehr toller Ort um zu schleppen, Ihr habt dort so viel Platz und gerade Flächen... und nebenan direkt eine Wasserflug-Startbahn...

Ja, die Erstflug war schon!! Doch immer ein bisschen "No guts no glory".
Ich hatte immer geglaubt das in Deutchland mehr Platz um zu fliegen wahre, im Holland ist das sehr schwierig irgendwo platz zu finden, so wir sind ganz froh mit diese Stelle. In eine woche hatten sie die Graben gemacht und dan gab es Wasser! Und mit Wasser ist das genau dasselbe wie mit Baume, die Modellen ziehen dahin .

Bonjour a tous,
I did some small things, to make the quicklinks less visible I blackened them chemically with Bernax 540 of which I happened to have some.
rinsed them with water.
Then I discovered a problem; on which spot could someone hold the plane when the catapult (sandow) was under tension?
I think the rudders are to weak, the attachment for the horizontal stabilizer is also a bit weak, besides there is no room for one hand. Rigging wires all over the place!
So I made a device, or better said a contraption to hold the glider in place with the catapult under tension, with a release hook.
I used a modified standard release hook connected with a 8mm stainless steel tube attached to a wooden handlebar. A 1mm stainless steel operating wire with a rope loop as a trigger.
On the plane I made also a demountable loop, attached to 0.6 mm steel wire, which was connected to one of the wing struts.
Here Sjoerd demonstrates how it should work (I tested it at home with 15 KG tension and the plane stayed horizontal too)
Today Rob towed the FG 2 again and it performed well.
The CG looks OK, the elevator is just a degree or 2 up, the plane was really flying!

Hello everyone,
Some time ago we went with the FG2 to the Fokkerfair, a yearly event organised (if I am correct) by the Historical Fokker foundation.
Claude (who gives always a tremendous support) and me are building up the FG2, all those small clips . Even the local tv came along
The plane right under construction is Robs Fokker FXX, the only Fokker commercial plane with retractable landing gear. Rob is also the pilot of the Piper, the plane that towed the FG2.
From left to right; the FG, Robs Fokker FXX and Fokker FVIIb/3m, Southern Cross and we are sitting in front; me, Claude, Rob and Adri (from the anemometre)
Last weekend we flew the FG2 again, it went allright, but flying with it on a level field is not a real joy. The steering is OK, but its coming down very fast, there are no (extra) brakes and I don't dare to side slip it, so its difficult (for me) to land. The skid is also very vulnerable with landing. It has already been replaced twice and there was some minor damage inside the fuselage.
In Holland are no suitable hills to fly it, so I think I store it till next Retroplane or maybe another meeting.

Das Segelflugzeug macht sich gut unter den Motorfliegern
Ja so ein Hang wie in Vauville ist eimalig da fliegt einfach alles.
Seid Retroplane ist das Stehaufchen schon über 20 mal geflogen
un dauch noch alles ganz ich hoffe es bleibt so auch besonders
bei Deiner FG2.

Thanks for all those nice comments!
While watching these photo's for another time, I suddenly realised that you can see the wingwarping in action. Normally you can't see it, but on the third photo (from the top) where the FG 2 is on close approach its clear to see, the left wings are giving '"up" and the right wings are "down". (luckily I made the right correction )
