New Project SZD 9 Bocian

Hi All,

after the construction of Musger from Vincent's project I have decide to start with a new model, after various hypothesis I start with the design of SZD 9 Bocian. After about two months I have concluded my project. I have choice 4.7 scale that gives a model of about 3,85m. Here enclosed my design. Next week I start the cutting of various pieces.

Hi Roberto.
I am very interested in your project, because I´m start to build the Bocian from a plan bought to Traplet pubblications. It is a 3 mts wingspan. I would like to known which wing profile you will use and how you will install the wing to the fuse.

I think you may already stop. What you have built is a piece of art.
I will also follow very close your construction.
Bocian is an interesting project. Not many have been build. It is a different shape compared to the standard sailplanes.

Hi Pierre many thanks for the photos are all interesting. Hi Harold thanks for the congratulation. Today I have concluded the rudders, here enclosed some photos. Now I start with thw elevator because to arrange the elevatore control system inside the fusolage is better to have the elevator.
I think to use the same method of control used by Vincent on MG 9A.

Hi All,

my construction of Bocian is proceeding, the elevator is concluded. Now I have to decide the method of elevator control. I have some doubt, I don't know if choose the method used by Vincent on MG 9 or simply use two bowden with external connection to movable part of horizontal tail.
Your suggestions are very appreciated, many thanks in advance

Hi All,

today I have used the software XLRF5 to try to check the flight characteristics of Bocian with the profile MS retro 13%.

The wing incidence that I have chosen is of 2°.

In the two followings images it is possible to understand the with the CG placed at 67mm the model will fly at a speed of 12.5m/s that is 45 km/h. With the wing incidence of 2° the moment coefficient is zero.

In the enclosed diagram the max. glide ratio is about 28 at speed of 12.5m/s

Hi All,

today I have conclude the structure of fin where the horizontal tail is fixed. The fin is made by a a shaped balsa block I have some doubt if is better to make some hole in order to reduce the weight on rear part of fuselage.

Is not a bad idea to reduce some weight in the tail. You could open some holes in the fin and the structure below the elevator, and refill the holes with foam, in order to mantaing the shape of the structure at the moment of cover it.
