CIRUS HS 62

These days I start to do a research about vintage Yugoslav bi-place school sailplane CIRUS HS 62, as I feel it would be a very good candidate for an large scale RC model, due its proportions and unique appearance.

The main problem at most of old Yugoslav sailplanes is lack of technical documentation. There are some pretty weel done drawings in Martin Simmons books, but there are not all interesting sailplanes included.

For a CIRUS HS 62 (and later model 64), only some 3 view drawings are widely available for public. As I see, these drawings are not well acurate drawn that could serve as a firm base for making the scale rc model plans&drawings.

So, my research lead me trough a very comherensive site of Aeroclub Sarajevo, where an excelent description of complete design story of CIRUS HS 62 and 63, are made by its designer, Mr. Neno Hrisafovic.

I was able to contact Mr. Hrisafovic regarding Cirus saiplane and he kindly give me his hand in order to help me with research of this cute sailplane details. In lack of workshop technical documentation, he send me some hand made drawings of internal structures, and give me some explanations. At this moment only minor details are waiting to be made and or corrected, but there are pretty enough informations now, for making of plans and drawings of a scale RC glider.

I am aiming towards 1:4 scale, which gives a wingspan of 4,25m.

When plans will be ready, probably the assembly of a model will starts....

Unfortunately I choose fast way to get model flying, so I did not show building thread here. Embarassed

Fuselage is made using "lost foam" composite, and wing is sandwiched.

Bytheway, I want to share here a little trick I use in making scale rudder pedal for the Cirus HS-62!

I was having troubles finding some useful material to represent rubber padding on the rudder pedal (see photo below).

Suddenly I came acros idea, that save me from headache! [tips]

I take Super Sculpey* (polimer clay for making dolls and sculptures) squeeze it into a thin sheet (pancake) and then use threaded rod ( M8 ) and roll it over the Sculpey surface. Threaded rod left nice grooves into the Sculpey.
Then I put Sculpey into a kitchen owen for 30min at 130°C. Sculpy then became hard. It can be cut with scisors and sand with sandpaper. It behave then like an ordinary plastic. I glue a part of that material onto the pedal and paint with silver paint.

I am sure, that any complicated part of the cockpit interior, like various buttons, knobs, handles and paddings, can be done using this material.

One more.. Very Happy

I made these "buttons" (shallow sperical bolt heads) on the pedal surface such way, that I simple make drops of white carpenter glue (water resistant) on the surface using toothpick. When glue dries it became almost firm as an plastic, but it shrink a little, so that shrinkage must be taken in concern (or not if you are tolerant as me).
